Roberta Celano, mezzo-soprano

Roberta Celano born in Catania in 1990, at the age of 5 she started studying piano with Agatella Catania. She starts studying singing with Giuseppina Sofia and debuted in “Il Rosario” by J. Napoli as the little woman, at the Teatro Sangiorgi (Catania, Italy – 2007) directed by Giovanni Grasso. In 2011 she sings for the “European Opera Days”, at the National Convitto Mario Cutelli (Catania, Italy 2011), for the third edition of the “Summer at the castle” (Calatabiano, Italy) and in a recital in Palazzo Ducezio (Noto, Italy – 2013).
In 2013 she debuted in “L’Italiana in Algeri” by G. Rossini as Zulma, at the Teatro Torti (Bevagna, Italy) and at the Teatro Municipale (Narni, Italy) directed by Antonio Pantaneschi to the Federico Cesi Festival “Musica Urbis”.

She sings in Casa Menotti (Spoleto, Italy) and again at the Teatro Torti in Bevagna for a Gala with the Rome international orchestra conducted by Alessandro Viale.

Winner in:
First Prize at the “G. Ierna” International Competition (Floridia, Italy – 2015),
First Prize at the “Simone Alaimo – bel canto” competition, also winning the Voce Rossiniana prize.

She receives the “excellence iblee 2016” award at the Teatro Donnafugata (Ragusa Ibla, Italy) and a scholarship for artistic merits from the “Vittoria” Cultural Association of Catania.
In the 2016 she debuted in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle conducted by Ezio Spinoccia (Lentini, Italy), and in “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” as Rosina directed by Simone Alaimo (Linguaglossa, Italy).

She studied with Carmelo Corrado Caruso and the Donata D’Annunzio Lombardi. She’s coached with soprano Francesca Scaini and she’s attending the Bachelor program in opera singing to the Vincenzo Bellini Music Institute in Catania with Giuseppina Sofia.
